This Waste Reduction Week, find out what campus programs and services exist to help you protect the environment.

Buy second-hand supplies from your campus shop

Get your desk, chair, binders and other school supplies from a second-hand campus shop like Reshop at the University of Manitoba. You can even donate used items you don’t need anymore, so they don’t end up in a landfill.

Bike to class

Live close to campus? Ride your bike to class and take advantage of secure bike storage like this new bike cage at the University of Waterloo.

Learn about climate change

Enroll in a university course or program designed to teach you the complexities of our changing climate. Check out Carleton University’s climate change courses or see if your class can participate in The University of British Columbia’s Climate Teaching Connector program to hear from expert guest lecturers.

Get your food to-go in an eco-container

Take advantage of reusable container programs—like this one at Brock University—that allow you to purchase reusable containers for your takeout, which can then be returned, washed and reused.

Grow your own produce on campus

Ditch grocery store plastic wrap and try your hand at growing your own fruits and vegetables at campus community gardens, like these ones at Université Laval and Université Sherbrooke.

Use recycling bins properly

Do you ever feel unsure about which recycle bin to use, and throw it in the garbage instead?

Check out this resource from the University of Victoria to learn which items can be recycled and reduce your impact on the planet.

Note: some programs may not be offered at this time due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
