Promoting safe and inclusive campuses across Canada, free from antisemitism

Universities Canada plays a key role in bringing together institutions across the country to collaborate on addressing antisemitism by sharing best practices and promoting collective action.  

Canadian universities are actively working to address antisemitism as part of their broader commitment to fostering inclusive and respectful campus environments.  

Many institutions have publicly reaffirmed their stance against hate speech and have introduced or reinforced measures to ensure the safety and well-being of Jewish students, faculty and staff. 

Initiatives include: 

• Enhanced Security: Universities are increasing campus security, often in collaboration with local law enforcement, and implementing monitoring systems to respond swiftly to any antisemitic incidents. 
• Policy Enforcement: Strict policies against hate speech and discrimination are being reinforced.  
• Community Engagement: Regular meetings with Jewish organizations and student groups have been prioritized to ensure open dialogue and support for Jewish communities on campus. 
• Educational Programs: Many universities are expanding workshops and resources to educate students and staff on antisemitism, aiming to foster greater awareness and understanding. 
• Respectful Discourse Efforts: Universities are integrating antisemitism awareness into their frameworks, often forming dedicated groups to assess the campus climate and promote respectful discourse. 

These actions are part of a wider effort to create safe and supportive campuses, particularly in light of rising concerns and recent antisemitic incidents across Canada.
