OTTAWA—As part of its initiative to foster bilateral cooperation in higher education and research Universities Canada and the Department of Science and Technology of the Republic of the Philippines signed a memorandum of understanding Thursday evening.

This MOU aims to facilitate, promote, support and develop science, technology and innovation cooperation between the Philippines and Canadian universities.

“This collaboration will provide numerous opportunities for us to build and strengthen individual and institutional linkages and work together to find solutions to pressing challenges facing our world,” said Universities Canada president Paul Davidson. “Universities Canada is proud to sign this Memorandum of understanding with the Department of Science and Technology of the Republic of the Philippines and look forward to the collaboration between our two countries.

“We hope that this partnership will create a platform for Filipino and Canadian scientists, researchers, and students to engage in meaningful collaboration that will enhance their capabilities and foster an environment that nurtures global perspectives, encourages intellectual curiosity, and cultivates cross-cultural understanding,” said the Hon. Renato Solidum, Jr., Secretary, Department of Science and Technology.“Together, let us leverage our combined expertise and resources and cultivate a strong global network of innovation to tackle the complex challenges faced by our societies, and to drive inclusive and sustainable development through science and technology.”

Later this year Universities Canada will lead a delegation of university presidents to the Philippines from Nov. 6th to Nov. 8th, 2023. The mission is an opportunity to reinforce connections and collaborations between the two countries.
