Appearance before the Standing Committee on Science and Research (SRSR)

November 5, 2025

Canada’s universities help power the country’s innovation economy by bringing together people, research and ideas that drive progress. During an appearance to the Standing Committee on Science and Research on November 5, 2025, Universities Canadian highlighted both the strength of university research and the need to close gaps in Canada’s commercialization pipeline, where too many discoveries are sold abroad and too much economic value leaves the country.

During this appearance, Universities Canada made four recommendations:

  1. Expand support for university commercialization programs.
  2. Strengthen university tech transfer, incubator and accelerator infrastructure.
  3. Engage universities in national and sectoral projects, including defence and dual-use research.
  4. Partner with universities to advance AI adoption and boost productivity.

Universities are ready partners in building a more innovative, competitive and prosperous future. With the right support and partnerships, Canadian discoveries can become Canadian success stories.
