How a Canadian researcher’s work 50 years ago led to the mRNA vaccine

Nearly 50 years ago, physicist, biochemist and UBC professor Dr. Pieter Cullis embarked on a journey to understand biological membranes — the most complex systems in nature. Decades later, his discoveries led to the creation of the mRNA vaccine, which saved millions of lives during the COVID-19 pandemic.
