Statement from Universities Canada on the Annual Report to Parliament on Immigration
OTTAWA — Universities Canada recognizes the federal government’s efforts to build a sustainable immigration system that continues to welcome those seeking to study at Canada’s universities and matches the government’s talent and economic goals.
Canada’s universities remain committed partners in ensuring that international education supports the country’s long-term economic goals. Universities have already adjusted international student enrolment to align with these goals.
IRCC officials have communicated additional encouraging steps to improve the system and strengthen Canada’s ability to attract the best and brightest students. These measures, such as faster processing for doctoral applicants, the reinstated PAL/TAL exemption for graduate students at public institutions and efforts to streamline work-integrated learning, will help ensure that international education continues to contribute meaningfully to Canada’s economy and research strength.
Universities Canada will continue to engage constructively with the federal government to ensure that policy implementation supports Canada’s ability to attract, educate and retain the global talent needed for long-term success.
