Find the financial aid resource right for your needs

Financial aid is essential for many students, including first-generation students, who may not have the same support as their peers. Key financial supports include student grants, loans, scholarships and bursaries like the First Generation Bursary at the Nipissing University or Wilfrid Laurier University.

Additional resources are also available for students with specific backgrounds, such as first-generation students, athletes and Indigenous Peoples, ensuring that everyone—including you—has the opportunity to succeed in university.

Get a mentor

Mentorship can be a game-changer in navigating university, especially for first-generation students new to the university experience.  Several programs, like the University of Calgary’s mentorship program and Carleton University’s Community Connections program,  offer guidance, support and encouragement to help students thrive.
