Queen’s University tool helps units better understand their environments and climate relating to equity and diversity

Queen’s University has expanded the use of an online tool to help deans and department heads assess equity and diversity within their units and plan for improvements

The Diversity and Equity Assessment and Planning tool, or DEAP as it’s known, includes twelve indicators of educational inclusion.  It looks beyond demographic data on students and staff to consider if equity and diversity are embedded in strategic planning, admissions, recruitment, curriculum development community relations, among other areas.  The tool can help faculties and units with strategic planning, hiring and appointment processes, program reviews and with implementing facets of the academic plan.

The tool was developed jointly by the Equity Office and the Senate Educational Equity Committee.
