IDRC International Doctoral Research Awards

IDRC International Doctoral Research Awards (IDRA) are intended to build capacity and develop research skills in Canada and the Global South to improve the lives of people in the Global South.

The objectiveof the project is tostrengthenthecapacitiesof emerging researchers at Canadian universities, growing the cohort of researchers able to design, lead and carry out high quality research thatcontributes totheSustainable Development Goals andspecificdevelopment outcome areas of particular interest to IDRC.


Universities Canada is pleased to invite PhD students interested in applying for the 2024 IDRC-International Doctoral Research Awards (IDRA) to participate in a webinar on Wednesday, June 26, from 1 to 2 p.m. ET.

The webinar will provide clarifications on the application process and answer questions from applicants.

Call for applications

This call is open to Canadian citizens and permanent residents and citizens of developing countries pursuing doctoral studies at a Canadian university. Awards will cover the costs of field research conducted for a doctoral dissertation in one or more countries in the Global South.

Number and value of awards

25 awards of up to $20,000 each.
