We are seeking a Manager, Information Technology for a 1-year term to replace a temporary absence.

Reporting to the Director, Information Management and Information Technology, the Manager, Information Technology will be responsible for the management and operational execution of Universities Canada’s Information Technology services. This includes overseeing day-to-day IT operations, supervising the IT team, managing IT budgets, ensuring system reliability and security. The incumbent plays a key role in maintaining IT systems and services that support the organization’s business functions, contributes to the development and operationalization of IT initiatives and champions the IT Security program, ensuring alignment with Universities Canada’s overall information management objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage IT operations, services and infrastructure ensuring smooth operations of IT systems, servers, networks and storage.
  • Monitor and maintain system performance in production and backup environments, implementing required controls, system upgrades, updates, and patches.
  • Lead the implementation of Universities Canada’s Information Security program ensuring compliance with privacy and industry regulations and standards.
  • Implement effective preventative measures to ensure security of information systems and assets from unauthorized access or damage.
  • Respond promptly to security incidents by containing the threat, conducting investigations, and documenting findings and lessons learned.
  • Source and manage relationships with external vendors and contractors, including negotiating and managing contracts and coordinating deliverables to support IT initiatives.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders to understand business requirements and technology needs and recommend options and solutions.
  • Lead IT project management ensuring completion in time and on budget.
  • Manage and motivate IT service team ensuring efficient resource allocation and adherence to UC policies and procedures.
  • Provide technical training and support to internal stakeholders and teams.

Requirements

  • University degree preferably in computer science, information technology, information systems or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in an IT environment including experience leading IT services and infrastructure teams.
  • Strong technical background in networking, M365, Azure, Dynamic and Power.
  • Proven IT project management experience.
  • Experience managing contracts, service agreements and budgets.
  • Thorough understanding of network-based services and networking technologies and protocols.
  • Excellent knowledge of IT Service Management frameworks (ITIL).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, bilingualism is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • High degree of judgment, initiative, and discretion.

The position is based in Ottawa. Universities Canada has adopted a hybrid work model where employees are expected to work in the office a minimum of two days a week.

The hiring range for this position is $91,507 to $101,000; with the ability to progress to a maximum of $128,682. To ensure fair and equitable pay at Universities Canada, placement on the salary range will be based on years of experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the position. Candidates who do not meet all of the position requirements may be considered in an underfill capacity, in which case the candidate would be hired at a lower level than the position level.
